pax-arabica:

There is equality in Israel!

Yells the Israeli settler, who then drives on segregated roads, filled with segregated buses, to drop their children off at segregated schools.

Arabs live here better than anywhere else!

Screeches the Israeli liberal, conveniently ignoring that…

An entirely reasonable set of conditions

andrewfordlyons:

Hamas has offered Israel a 10-year truce if it accepts 10 conditions. The Jerusalem Post reported this, based on an Israeli Channel 2 newscast. According to Ma’ariv (Hebrew) these are the conditions:

  1. Withdrawal of Israeli tanks from the Gaza border.
  2. Freeing all the…

Q: Hamas did agree to it. The ceasefire statement says Israel can continue tunnel operations. Hamas accepted the ceasefire.

pax-arabica:

No, the ceasefire statement says it’s an unconditional ceasefire.

But: “Earlier on Thursday, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, had said his country was determined, regardless of ceasefire efforts, to complete the destruction of tunnels that Palestinian fighters have built under the Gaza-Israel border.

"Until now, we have destroyed dozens of terror tunnels and we are determined to finish this mission - with or without a ceasefire,” he said.”

Like I said, it’s unilateral. The only thing Hamas agreed to was an unconditional ceasefire for 72 hours. Which Israel broke even before the ambush happened.

And let’s say for arguments sake that Hamas agreed to tunnel destruction, that doesn’t mean that Israeli forces can invade Rafah deep in the Gaza strip with impunity.

Israelis watch the latest military activity towards Gaza on August 2, 2014. (Siegfried Modola/Reuters)

the fact that they fucking got their shitty little couches out to watch this unfold for their own entertainment makes me lose all faith in humanity there is no humanity in this at all, only monsters would do shit like this.

They say that the rockets being fired at them are so dangerous and that they can’t live in these conditions yet they can set up couch camp right at the border. They’re lower than scum, I swear.

The New York Times runs an ad by Elie Wiesel entitled “Jews rejected child sacrifice 3,500 years ago. Now its Hamas’ turn”.
Thoughts on this:
A. Elie Wiesel is sham, fraud and a racist. For someone who built a reputable name condemning injustice around the world, you’d think he’d have at least a shred of empathy for the conditions of Palestinians. But I suppose its much easier to chastise a profoundly oppressed population for their mode of resistance rather than confront what they’re resisting.
B. Hamas has never been caught using children as shields. This lie has managed to infect discourse and even the most seemingly “objective” publications. Its islamophobic propaganda that’s been easily consumable because the west is hostile and wary of Muslims. This is how you have almost 2,000 Palestinians who’ve been ruthlessly killed and “neutralists” respond with “Hamas is using them as human shields”, which then portrays the apparatus of the Israeli settler state as moral and left without choice because of Hamas’ recklessness. We’re allowing the genocide of people to occur with obfuscations such as this.
C. Ironically, the only people who’ve used Palestinian children as shields against gunfire are Israeli soldiers.
D. This article plays into the greater idea that Palestinian oppression is a religious conflict rather than the construction of a brutal settler state that has enacted the most heinous policies to eradicate and torture a people it deems undesirable and existence as a roadblock to their Manifest Destiny. So much of the antisemitic rhetoric which masquerades as a criticism of Israel has hinged on the idea that Israeli aggression is a fault of Judaism or Jewish people, rather than colonialism, which is what Elie Wiesel has managed to proliferate. It also portrays Palestinians as unanimously Muslim, which is why interfaith dialogue between Rabbis and Muslims who are not Palestinian occurs, thus erasing the existence of Palestinian Christians.
E. This is a really egregious trend amongst the liberal Zionist crowd, condemning Hamas for the sake of Palestine. Bullshit. Troll concern to the nth degree. Hamas is a democratically elected parliament. It is immensely degrading and paternalistic to denounce a party chosen by a people on behalf of the people. To be fair, I recognize Hamas’ faults, but I also recognize how wholly irrelevant that is to the broader discussion of the state of Palestine. Hamas is not a current deterrent to Palestinians, Israel is. Hamas doesn’t destroy houses in the West Bank, Israel does. Hamas doesn’t induce the death of Palestinian women in labor by holing them at checkpoints, Israel does. Hamas has never installed over 400 miles of apartheid wall, charred olive trees, killed livestock and dumped sewage waste in drinking water, which wreak havoc on agriculture and irrigation, Israel did. To insinuate that one is to condemn Hamas on behalf of Palestine, but not the Israeli government is flagrantly dishonest.

Q: Perhaps you, and those who share your views, would like it better if Israel used the rules of Hamas in its response: you know, the ones that make ALL civilians legitimate targets, that allow for no warnings of impending attacks or retaliation, that allow covert attacks through tunnels, that condone suicide bombings and regard their perpetrators as holy martyrs, that teach little children hatred and violence and efficient weapons use by the age of ten. Wake up and get real.

pax-arabica:

How can I take you seriously when you literally have a handbook telling you how to argue?

Listen buddy, as evil as you want Hamas to be, almost all of the Israelis killed by Hamas in this “War” have been IDF soldiers. Literally.

And almost all those killed by your glorious humanitarian IDF have been civilians. Israel has a long history of firing indiscriminately at civilians, I don’t know what world you live in, but there are even videos of this now online. Such as the 4 children on the beach and many many others.

I really can’t believe that some of you are truly so brainwashed as to think the IDF is humanitarian in the slightest. You have dozens of human rights council resolutions aimed at you, international court of justice, HRW, Amnesty etc etc. The world is literally starting to boycott you, but somehow you’re still deluded, and think your latest loss was actually a victory.

Maybe if your army was so pious and innocent your government wouldn’t need to hire people to defend it? Does that seriously not raise any flags in your head? Truly, the vast majority of Israelis have the critical self reflection skills of a nail clipper.

Israel is one of the most racist societies on this planet, I’m not the one that needs to wake up and get real.

But please, by all means, carry on. Your arrogance is what got you into this mess, and your continued arrogance is what will be the undoing of you.
